The New Jersey Bike & Walk Coalition
hosts a free SMART Cycling Class, free and open to the community, taught by Paul Mickiewicz and Andrea Silk, certified instructors by the League of American Bicyclists and the American Bicylcing Education Association.
Classes start with skill building drills in a parking lot to practice starts, stops, turning, hazard avoidance, signaling, scanning, shifting and more. After a break, participants take their skills to the street, applying street savvy cycling strategies to a road ride, analyzing challenging roadway scenarios before navigating them solo. Learn how proper lane positioning, effective communication and courteous cooperation can transform your road riding experience.
The parking lot skill building session is open to school age riders but those also participating in the road ride must be 12 years of age or older. Helmets, road ready bikes and signed waivers required.
