Holiday Season Enforcement Campaign

Dec 13 - Jan 1

The 2023 winter holiday season enforcement campaign, Drive High, Get a DUI, kicks off Dec. 15 and runs through the new year.

The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and local law enforcement are teaming up for the If You Feel Different, You Drive Different. Get High, Get a DUI, impaired driving awareness campaign.

Those who plan to use drugs should not drive, even over-the-counter and prescription medications can have an imparring effect. NHTSA warns drivers to take caution before driving after using any medication. If you find yourself drug-impaired and with your vehice, hand off your keys to a sober driver who can safely drive you home. The same goes if the shoe is on the other foot: If you have a friend who is about to drive while drug impaired, take the keys away to help them get home safely.

Remind your friends: Never get in the vehicle with an impaired driver. Don't worry about offending someone because you might be saving their life -- or someone else's. Designated drivers shoudl stick to the plan and not use drugs of any kind, whether legal or illegal. There are plenty of options to get home safely, whether it's a desginated driver, a taxi, rideshare, or mass transit.
