The costumes should be the only thing scary about Halloween. Making streets safer — and saving a life — is as simple as avoiding distractions and slowing down.
While this Halloween may be a bit different this year due to the pandemic, children will stick be out trick or treating in many places.
We can all help make sure they have a safe and happy Halloween by following these safety tips when driving:
- Just Drive: Distractions aren’t just dangerous they can be deadly, so put the phone away and focus on the road.
- Slow Down for Safety: There’s no need to speed. Slower is always safer.
- Stop for People: Drivers must stop to allow people to cross in crosswalks and at intersections — it’s the law in New Jersey.
There are some steps people walking can take to improve safety as well. This includes crossing at crosswalks and intersections when possible and crossing with the green light or walk sign.
